The Finnish soprano Kaisa Makkonen was born in 1987 in Savonlinna, Finland. At the age of 16, she was accepted to study at the Upper Secondary School of Art and Music in Savonlinna, where she studied singing and performing arts under Chieko Okabe-Silvasti. By 2008, Makkonen graduated with great honor from the Turku Conservatory and by 2012 from the Turku Arts Academy with a Bachelor degree in classical singing. During this time her singing teachers were soprano Lilia Varnas and Jouni Kuorikoski. She also studied pop and jazz music in addition to classical music at the Turku Conservatory from 2006 to 2008. She sang as a soloist in the Mr. Wife - band at various events, e.g. at weddings and parties for 6 years. 

In the fall of 2012 Makkonen started studying in the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität at the Opera Master Programme. Her teacher was Bojidar Nikolov. She graduated as an opera singer in 2017.

Alongside with her studies she attended in different master classes with teachers such as Tom Krause, Jorma Silvasti, Bojidar Nikolov, Mikko Franck, Rilla Kyykkä and Mika Kares.

In 2007 Makkonen joined the Savonlinna Opera Festival choir for three summers, where she sang in operas like Turandot, Mefistofele, Carmen, Tosca, and Aida. Makkonen has also been performing with the Savonlinna-, Turku- and Vienna- orchestras and the Bigband.

Fall 2012 Makkonen performed during the Wien modern weeks in the world premiere of Dirk D'ases opera Azrael as Maria with great acclaim. In 2013 Makkonen made her debut as Despina in Cosi fan tutte and Contessa Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro.

In 2017 she moved back to Finland.

In the spring 2019 she had the opportunity to have supervising singing lessons with opera singer Jorma Silvasti. 

In addition to operas and classical solo repertoire my repertoire includes international and Finnish entertainment music. Especially jazz/soul music is close to my heart. The concert venues have been churches, concert halls, various celebrations, memorial events, garden concerts, etc. with highly respected pianists and orchestras.

In Italy she took part in the International Sanremo Senior 2022 song competition as a solo singer-songwriter. Her song was "I don`t wanna let you go". She reached the final competition and received a special mention of talents because of her great stage charisma and wonderful singing voice. In addition, her own song received praise.

She has composed and written many songs, e.g. Butterflies, No Goodbyes, Happy, Syytän sua, Koti Enkelin...etc. Makkonen is still composing and songwriting.

Makkonen is known as a very talented singer having concerts with several pianist and orchestras. Her aim is to have opportunities to sing worldwide in operas and concerts.
